Job Description

Job Title: Director of Development and Fundraising

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Status: Exempt

Salary: Dependent on Qualifications

Position Summary:

The Director of Development and Fundraising provides strategic direction and oversight in all functions which contribute to and support the raising of financial resources, which supports and funds the advancement of Heading Home's mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Manage and regularly update macro and micro strategic plans with measurable objectives which support giving to Heading Home's work. Development planning and work will engage staff, board members, civic leaders and philanthropists in raising money, awareness and volunteers.
  • Major and Planned Giving: Build, manage and maintain a database, an engagement-deepening system, communications and donor recognition plans which inspire major and planned-gift prospects to deepen engagement in and philanthropy to Heading Home's work and which will lead to the successful solicitation of major and planned gifts while inspiring new donors and volunteers to engage and grow their involvement and giving.
  • New Donor Engagement and Annual Giving: Design an Annual Giving Campaign that will be based on hosted gatherings in which hospitality and case communication will inspire attendees to make annual pledges to support Heading Home's mission.
  • Awareness and Case Development: Collaborate to create case development and printed, video and media collateral materials, including basic brochures, videos and philanthropic investment reports for donors and prospects forms that inform donors and prospects about Heading Home's mission and effectiveness.
  • Volunteer Development: Oversee, design and implement a strategic plan to inspire, manage and acknowledge volunteer resources raised for Heading Home's mission.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent Strategic Planning Skills: Ability to develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans that drive fundraising efforts.
  • Systems Management Skills: Proficiency in managing databases, engagement-deepening systems, and donor recognition plans.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with staff, board members, civic leaders, and philanthropists to raise money, awareness, and volunteers.
  • Proven Fundraising Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in major gift solicitation and fundraising.
  • Proven Experience in Multiple Social Media Platforms: Ability to leverage social media platforms to engage donors and prospects.
  • Leadership and Direction: Ability to lead and direct others, including volunteers, to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail in managing databases, engagement-deepening systems, and donor recognition plans.
  • Effective Communication: Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to engage donors and prospects.
  • Grant Research and Writing: Knowledge of grant research and grant writing to secure funding for Heading Home's mission.
  • Event Planning: Ability to plan and execute events that inspire attendees to make annual pledges to support Heading Home's mission.
  • Time Management: Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Staff and Volunteer Management: Ability to manage staff and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • Master's Degree: Master's degree in business or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of Five Years: Minimum of five years of experience in major gift solicitation and fundraising.
  • Working Knowledge: Working knowledge of issues regarding homelessness and a demonstrated and articulated passion for Heading Home's population.

Other Requirements:

  • CPR/First Aid Training: Must become CPR/First Aid trained within 90 days of hire.
  • Personal Vehicle: May require use of a personal vehicle.
  • Travel: May include some travel.
