Job Summary

The Oakland Housing Authority is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Reserve Police Officer. As a Reserve Police Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining the safety and security of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol Authority-owned property by car and on foot to prevent crime and protect life and property.
  • Enforce the California Penal and Vehicle Code, as well as Authority rules and regulations.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for protection of life or property.
  • Cooperate with other law enforcement agencies to investigate crimes and unusual incidents.
  • Work in specialized units, such as drug elimination, and serve evictions and other legal notices.
Requirements
  • Be at least 20.5 years of age at time of application.
  • Hold a valid California Driver's License and have an insurable driving record.
  • Be willing to work nights, weekends, and holiday shifts as assigned.
  • Work a minimum of 20 hours per month.
  • Currently enrolled or a graduate of a police academy or enrolled in or a graduate of Reserve Modules 1 or 2.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual skills in ASL, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and/or Spanish.
Selection Process

All applications will be carefully reviewed. The selection process will include a physical ability test, oral interview, writing exercise, and personal history review. Successful applicants will be placed on a list of qualifiers. Based on position on the list, applicants will complete a polygraph examination and intensive background investigation. Successful candidates will be scheduled for an interview with the Department Director. Those passing will be given a conditional job offer and scheduled for a medical and psychological examination.
