Job Summary

Amtrak is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Police Officer to join our team as a Railroad Safety Specialist. This is a critical role that requires a strong background in law enforcement and a passion for ensuring the safety of our passengers, employees, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general police duties, including patrols, investigations, and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws.
  • Protect life and property, prevent crime, and preserve peace in a railroad surface transportation environment.
  • Respond to emergencies, including derailments, floods, fires, and hazardous material incidents.
  • Conduct thorough investigations, gather evidence, and testify in administrative, civil, and criminal proceedings.
  • Communicate effectively with law enforcement agencies, internal and external partners, and the public.
  • Maintain proficiency in police equipment, including vehicles, computers, and firearms.
Requirements
  • Valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a full-time, sworn patrol officer with a California police or sheriff's department.
  • Ability to pass a physical agility test, interview, psychological examination, and in-depth background investigation.
  • Ability to obtain a railroad police commission from the State of California.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current California P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Basic Certificate or higher.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
