Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Engineer is tasked with ensuring optimal operation of plant equipment, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This role necessitates a solid mechanical foundation and familiarity with various equipment types to provide hands-on support to the maintenance team. The Maintenance Engineer will oversee projects, mentor maintenance technicians, coordinate contractors, and organize daily maintenance tasks to align with production objectives. The focus will be on implementing strategic improvements in asset reliability and maintenance processes over the short term (0-18 months).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a catalyst for change, promoting discipline, efficiency, and accountability within the maintenance team to enhance daily operations. Success hinges on cultivating a proactive mindset that identifies root causes and implements swift corrective measures to prevent recurring issues.
  • Offer technical guidance to Maintenance Planners and Supervisors in developing job packages for various equipment types, including fixed and rotating machinery.
  • Collaborate with Planners/Schedulers/Maintenance Supervisors to refine work processes, enhancing the efficiency of scheduling and executing maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct field audits to assess the effectiveness of planning and scheduling practices.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) standards related to mechanical integrity and maintenance procedures.
  • Regularly review maintenance backlogs and compliance reports to ensure timely completion of critical inspections and maintenance tasks.
  • Establish and track Maintenance KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of maintenance processes.
  • Serve as a steward of the plant's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, particularly in relation to work design and execution.
  • Support the Reliability Engineer in optimizing maintenance strategies based on historical performance data.
  • Provide troubleshooting support during equipment failures and repairs, ensuring that repair specifications are meticulously followed and documented.
  • Coordinate Predictive Maintenance activities, including vibration analysis and thermography.
  • Monitor equipment performance to proactively identify and address potential issues.
  • Contribute to turnaround planning by assessing mechanical equipment conditions and providing insights for post-turnaround evaluations.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) initiatives to diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer among plant engineers to optimize technical practices.
  • Develop and update Maintenance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and provide training to staff.
  • Engage in capital and expense project planning, ensuring timely and budget-compliant execution.
  • Participate actively in plant HSE initiatives and training programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in maintenance and reliability, preferably in chemical or petrochemical environments.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Expertise in planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
  • Familiarity with API, ASME, and ANSI standards.
  • Proficient in SAP and other maintenance management systems.
  • Strong understanding of HSE practices and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze and improve equipment reliability through data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in MS Office and database management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).
  • Certifications such as Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Leader (CRL).
