Truancy Support Specialist

Position Overview: Youth Advocate Programs has established a versatile Truancy Intervention Program tailored to meet the diverse needs of urban, suburban, and rural educational institutions. The organization is committed to assisting students who are at the greatest risk of academic failure and those facing multifaceted challenges. This includes court-involved youth, individuals with special needs, and students living in economically disadvantaged areas. The target population may include:
- Students at significant risk of expulsion or suspension
- Those struggling academically due to home-related issues
- Individuals exhibiting behavioral challenges
- Students reintegrating after Juvenile Detention
- Truant individuals
- Students dealing with school anxiety or bullying
- Those involved in substance misuse
- Emotionally or developmentally challenged youth
- Execution of individualized treatment plans
- Preparation of monthly case summaries
- Monitoring and gathering data related to truancy (e.g., attendance records, academic performance, communication logs)
- Case management, specifically:
- Facilitating initial intake sessions for new cases
- Engaging in daily face-to-face interactions with clients and/or guardians, while recommending, implementing, and transferring behavioral therapeutic techniques aimed at effectively addressing truancy issues
- Providing transportation for participants to and from educational facilities
- Conducting regular check-ins with participants during school hours, collaborating with school personnel, and performing community searches for absent participants (and ensuring their return to school)
- Conducting weekly home visits with caregivers of participants to review case progress and address current concerns (including a formal case review monthly)
- Attending local magistrate and juvenile court proceedings related to active cases; researching and connecting caregivers and participants with suitable community resources
- Exceptional organizational skills are essential
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities are required
- Professionalism, adaptability, and the capacity to work independently are necessary
- Experience with youth in the Educational System, Behavioral Health System, or Juvenile Justice System is a plus
- Availability during morning hours is crucial
