Position Overview
Facilities Services plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of higher education by ensuring the effective operation and upkeep of the institution's physical assets and grounds. The selected candidate will be responsible for independently executing or leading a team in a diverse range of maintenance and urgent repair activities across campus buildings, including structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This role involves regular inspections and repairs at a journeyman level across multiple skilled trades. The position requires the operation of company-issued vehicles.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM

Key Responsibilities:
50% - This role serves as a lead position, assisting in the diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance of various systems, including fire alarms, mechanical and electrical systems, three-phase power, generators, plumbing, and structural components. Responsibilities include lubrication, cleaning, inspections, and changing belts and filters in equipment. The technician will perform repairs on HVAC units, reset fire alarm systems, and service electric motors, gear reducers, air compressors, and various control components.

40% - Respond to emergency situations involving utility outages or equipment failures. Tasks include resetting breakers and repairing leaks in water or air lines, with repairs conducted as time and expertise allow. The technician may assist Central Shop staff with more complex repairs and contribute to the training and mentoring of general maintenance personnel.

10% - Additional duties as assigned include maintaining an adequate inventory of tools, parts, and supplies for tasks. The technician will respond to after-hours emergency calls as necessary and assist in other maintenance areas as required, including snow removal and surface treatment.

Position Requirements:
1. Ability to reach, grasp, hold, lift, and place moderately heavy to heavy loads occasionally (up to 50 lbs) with or without accommodation.
2. Capability to perform work at heights, in confined spaces, and under extreme temperatures (both hot and cold) indoors and outdoors.
3. Proficiency in operating company-issued vehicles for transporting staff and materials.
4. Willingness to work planned and unplanned overtime as needed, including responding to after-hours emergencies.
5. Commitment to reporting to work during declared periods of inclement weather.
6. Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of hire, maintained throughout employment.
7. Competence in digitally entering work order information and performing other electronic communications as required.

Required Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
2. Three (3) years of experience in a skilled craft area. A certificate from a vocational school or an associate's degree in a building or mechanical trade area may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. One year of experience with generators and/or life safety systems.
2. Familiarity with standard practices, tools, equipment, and materials associated with various skilled crafts and building trades.
3. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions relevant to skilled crafts and building trades.
4. Coursework or work experience demonstrating the ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical or plumbing schematics.
5. Experience working in a university, college, or multi-building campus environment.
