Overview:
The Recreational Therapy Specialist assesses patients, sets therapeutic objectives, implements treatment strategies, provides education for patients and families, and meticulously documents outcomes and progress in the medical records.
This role requires demonstrating competencies in delivering age-appropriate care and services to individuals ranging from infancy to 21 years, as well as select adult populations.

This position is contingent/prn/on-call.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct evaluations and screenings to identify therapeutic recreational needs, recognizing strengths and areas for improvement, establishing both long-term and short-term objectives, and crafting a personalized treatment plan that incorporates the needs of patients and their families.
- Implement treatment interventions tailored to each patient's unique requirements and aspirations; monitor progress or changes in the patient's condition and adjust the treatment plan as necessary.
- Facilitate the patient's transition into the healthcare environment. Support enhancements in the patient's self-image and functional abilities.
- Document evaluation outcomes, objective status, progress towards objectives, treatment plans, and recommendations. Utilize appropriate computerized or standardized documentation methods relevant to the caseload.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment objectives and therapy plans; guide patients and parents on therapeutic activities to pursue during their stay or at home; document instructions; and assess ongoing adherence and comprehension.
- Advocate for and coordinate patient referrals to community organizations to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications:
Education Requirement:
Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited institution.
Certifications:
Certification as a Therapeutic Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience as a CTRS is preferred, or completion of a clinical affiliation in pediatrics.

1-33% OF THE TIME (0.5 TO 2.5 HOURS) Climbing stairs/ladders, driving, lifting/carrying up to 60 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 60 lbs., exposure to fumes/gases/vapors, exposure to biohazard waste, outdoor work, and working in varying temperatures.
FREQUENTLY:
34-66% OF THE TIME (2.6 TO 5.0 HOURS) Bending/twisting, squatting/kneeling, utilizing computer skills, lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 40 lbs., exposure to blood and/or bodily fluids, exposure to communicable diseases and/or pathogens, exposure to chemicals and/or medications, and use of patient equipment.
CONTINUOUSLY:
67-100% OF THE TIME (5.1 TO 12 HOURS OR GREATER)
Standing, walking, sitting, flexing/extending the neck, reaching above shoulder level, and hand usage including grasping, gripping, turning, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs. and pushing/pulling up to 10 lbs.
CONTINUOUSLY:
67-100% OF THE TIME (5.1 TO 12 HOURS OR GREATER) Audible speech, hearing acuity, depth perception, color vision, peripheral vision, and near/far sight. Problem-solving, decision-making, and data interpretation skills are essential.
