Job Summary

PulteGroup, Inc. is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our Application Delivery team, you will be responsible for implementing and managing the operational aspects of cloud and on-premises data platforms built on Microsoft Azure data services and Microsoft SQL Server. Your success will be defined by achieving highly performant, highly available, scalable, secure, cost-optimized cloud and on-premises database environments.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for the database environment, including creation, configuration, and organization of database servers.
  • Optimize database systems for reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Participate in a rotating 2nd level support schedule that requires On-Call availability 24x7 during scheduled periods.
  • Ensure all databases comply with backup and high availability/disaster recovery strategies.
  • Configure database server monitoring utilities to optimize proactive alerting.
  • Develop a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas.
  • Collaborate closely with Data Engineers and Developers to implement changes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve database provisioning, monitoring, support, and deployment through automation.
  • Design and implement database security controls and create proper auditing procedures to maintain integrity of Company database systems.
  • Support and facilitate auditing and reporting of deployment activity.
  • Participate in planning activities for scheduled or emergency application software releases.
  • Execute Staging and Production database-related release tasks.
  • Develop technical documentation for training, procedures, and project deliverables.
  • Lead and participate in projects or other tasks related to the database environment or as assigned by application development Project Managers.
  • Perform system upgrades in collaboration with other IT disciplines and 3rd parties.
  • Participate in the creation of database-related support practices and processes and related documentation.
  • Participate in incident management teams by providing information, support, and root cause analysis on database-related aspects of the incident.
  • Identify opportunities, lead, and participate in continuous improvement efforts for database service offerings.
  • May be called upon to lead small projects and provide guidance and task assignments to other team members.
  • Mentor and coach less senior team members on database-related technologies, Company methodologies, and application knowledge.
  • Assist application development teams and less senior DBAs in solving database-related issues.
  • Participate in engagements with 3rd party vendors in the assessment of advanced database applications and products.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years in a Database Administrator role in an Azure cloud environment.
  • Expertise with current versions of Microsoft SQL Server, i.e., 2019, 2022.
  • Highly proficient in the installation, patching, monitoring, deployment, troubleshooting, and optimization of Microsoft SQL (both Azure and on-prem).
  • Experience with administration of SSAS, SSRS, and PowerBI servers.
  • Proficient in writing and executing T-SQL scripts and queries.
  • Experience with Azure database/storage technologies such as Runbooks, Elastic Pool, Storage, Data Factory, Azure Cache for Redis.
  • Experience creating/maintaining deployment automation for Azure resources using ARM/Bicep templates.
  • Experience performing deep analysis for performance optimization of Azure SQL resources using Application Insights, Kusto Query Language, or other 3rd party tools.
  • Experience in configuration, maintenance, testing of High Availability/Disaster Recovery for SQL Server.
  • Experience with source control systems and branching strategy (Azure DevOps, Git).
  • Experience with SQL Sentry a strong plus.
  • Experience with alternative data stores such as Azure Data Lake and Azure Synapse a plus.
  • Experience with scripting languages and common configuration files formats a plus, i.e., PowerShell, XML, JSON.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, a field related to the position, or a combination of related education and work experience in the areas of database administration or database development to equal four years.
  • Preferred: Microsoft Certified Database Administrator and/or Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administration Associate.
