Job Title: Senior Mechanical Technician

Department: Project Assembly

Reports To: Project Assembly Supervisor

Overview

The Senior Mechanical Technician plays a pivotal role in enhancing mechanical functionalities for both new and refurbished CNC machinery. This position requires a high level of expertise in executing rebuilds on diverse CNC equipment with minimal supervision.

The technician is expected to manage intricate mechanical assignments while adhering to all safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret detailed blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and demonstrate strong time management skills.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety standards in a workshop setting.
  • Execute all tasks in compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) safety regulations, OSHA guidelines, and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Align machinery and equipment utilizing hoists, jacks, hand tools, precision measuring instruments, lasers, and plumb bobs.
  • Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes, ensuring proper rigging safety practices.
  • Assemble components using a variety of hand and power tools in accordance with specifications.
  • Conduct basic and advanced geometric procedures for realigning machine axes, including multi-axis systems.
  • Perform general CNC programming and machine operations, troubleshooting, option setups, and parameter adjustments.
  • Review and modify existing drawings, collaborating with the engineering team to confirm alterations.
  • Communicate effectively with all departments to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of incoming rebuilds or used machinery.
  • Read and interpret assembly prints, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics while executing assigned tasks.
  • Take ownership of integrating mechanical options into both new and refurbished CNC equipment.
  • Availability for overtime and weekend work as needed.
  • Minimal travel, both domestic and international, may be required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Preferred Senior Mechanical Duties

  • Diagnose potential issues and propose viable solutions.
  • Capable of performing basic electrical tasks as necessary.
  • Communicate project updates to other departments.
  • Conduct quality assessments on machine installations.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in using basic measuring instruments, including dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, laser measurement tools, and ball bar testing equipment.
  • Certified in rigging and operation of company forklifts.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experienced with assembly prints and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics to ascertain work and operational requirements.
  • Adept at reading bills of materials and applying items correctly to the assembly process.
  • Familiarity with CNC controls, specifically Fanuc and Siemens (M-functions and some G-Code).
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment.

Education / Experience

  • High School Diploma or higher educational qualification.
  • Trade school, journeyman, or military certification in a mechanical discipline is preferred.
  • Experience in an industrial setting.
  • Background in the machine tool industry or other metal-cutting sectors is advantageous.
