Job Description

The Referral Coordinator is a vital member of the Baptist Health Care team, responsible for processing, follow-up, and communication with patients for referrals and/or procedure orders generated by providers. This role initiates authorization for patient services, requiring knowledge of insurance coverages, documentation of authorizations, and communication of status to practice staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Timely processing of incoming and/or outgoing referrals and orders is a top priority.
  • Accurate documentation of phone calls, messages, and interactions with patients and insurance companies is essential in the patient's chart or applicable order systems.
  • Obtaining prior authorizations for all appointments and procedures is a critical function.
  • Updating patient demographics in the practice management system is a key responsibility.
  • Providing exceptional customer service by receiving and routing incoming telephone calls in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Operating a variety of office equipment effectively is a requirement.
  • Collaborating with Baptist Medical Group Representatives, medical facilities, insurance companies, patients, and family members is essential.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is the minimum educational requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of experience in healthcare or medical office is preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to make assignments and achieve goals and objectives.
  • Ability to prioritize work effectively.
  • Proficiency in using computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to make recommendations and handle complaints and requests in a professional and calm manner.
  • Exceptional customer service skills are required.
