Code Compliance Officer I/II Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Code Compliance Officer I/II to join our team at the City of Palm Desert, CA. As a Code Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing municipal codes, zoning ordinances, and development regulations to ensure public health, safety, and welfare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and enforce code violations, including zoning, land use, and signage codes
  • Conduct field inspections and investigations to identify potential code violations
  • Prepare and issue notices of violation, citations, and other correspondence as necessary
  • Collaborate with other city departments and agencies to ensure compliance with city codes and regulations
  • Provide education and outreach to property owners and the public on code compliance and enforcement

Requirements:

  • Equivalent to graduation from the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by some college-level coursework or technical training in code compliance
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience performing municipal code enforcement, preferably in a similar role at the City of Palm Desert
  • Possession of a California PC 832 certificate and/or Code Enforcement Officer certification issued by the California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO)
