Job Summary

The Pharmacist In Charge coordinates and supervises the department, ensuring safe and efficient methods for drug distribution and clinical pharmacy activities. This role provides clinical drug information to meet patient, nurse, and physician needs, supervises an assigned team, and is responsible for department requirements.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Monitor daily operation activities of the pharmacy department.
  • Provide supervision for the dispensing pharmacy.
  • Monitor regulatory and accreditation compliance, partnering with the Compliance Officer to address issues.
  • Communicate and educate staff on pharmacy-related issues, regulatory compliance, and changes.
  • Implement quality assurance programs to evaluate patient care and maintain compliance with procedural, policy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement policies and procedures for procurement, storage, security, and disposition of drugs and supplies.
  • Maintain records of required pharmacist and intern licensures and technician registration.
  • Respond to the Board regarding notices issued by the Board.
  • Implement policies and procedures for maintaining prescription information and patient healthcare confidentiality.
  • Ensure pharmacy compliance with local, state, and federal accrediting rules and regulations.
  • Serve as a primary source of information, responding to internal and external customer questions or clarification of information.
  • Maintain controlled substances reporting requirements and respond to regulatory surveyor inquiries.
  • Partner with other department Leads/Managers and work closely with the nursing team.
  • Limit risk management and safety exposure in the pharmacy and department.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, and directing work.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as indicated by staffing and business needs.
  • Ensure quality of professional services is maintained.
  • Dispense prescriptions to ensure accurate medication administration.
  • Ensure effective communications with providers, patients, and associates to provide patient-focused care.
  • Provide patient consultations on safe medication use and storage, relevant health factors, and respond to inquiries.
  • Consult with prescribing physicians as necessary.
  • Maintain effective communications with physicians, patients, and manufacturers/HUB to foster business relationships and build customer loyalty.
  • Provide technical, policy, and regulatory guidance to pharmacy technicians to ensure accurate medication dispensing and processing.
  • Assist with workflow maintenance, technician assignment, and pharmacy operations.
  • Participate in in-service education programs.
  • Verify work performed by support personnel, including patient drug data entry and unit-dose drug distribution.
  • Assist with clinical follow-up of specialty patients as applicable.
  • Conduct drug utilization review of patient charts.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of personnel duties in the unit.
  • Leadership - Maintain a positive, upbeat role in the Company, promoting and exemplifying Company values and representing departmental objectives and interests to internal and external customers.
  • Customer Service - Follow up on complaints, questions, and concerns, responding to customer needs in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Run and create reports to audit and maintain workflow and revenue goals.
  • Review and organize employees' schedules, approve/deny vacation/sick requests, and maintain payroll records.
