The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is dedicated to providing legal expertise in the realm of environmental regulations, enforcement litigation, bankruptcy, and overall agency operations.

This office offers legal guidance and support to the executive director, various agency programs, and in collaboration with the general counsel and public interest counsel, the commissioners.

This role is situated within the enforcement section of the agency's Litigation Division. For further insights into our operations, please refer to our resources.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING...

As an enforcement attorney in the Litigation Division, you will represent the Executive Director and primarily the TCEQ's Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE). Your responsibilities will include the development of administrative enforcement litigation, ensuring that regulated entities achieve compliance.

Your expertise will be utilized in the following ways:

  • Act as a representative for the Executive Director during contested case hearings, agency agenda meetings, alternative dispute resolution sessions, and other agency proceedings;
  • Engage in negotiations for agreements and orders;
  • Support OCE and occasionally the Office of the Attorney General in preparing cases for contested hearings or court trials;
  • Provide legal advice to agency personnel on matters typically related to investigations and enforcement, as well as on associated agency projects;
  • Conduct thorough legal research and draft legal opinions and briefs for long-term projects or issues involving unique legal challenges.
