Job Summary

The Director of Information Governance will lead the development, implementation, and management of the firm's information governance program. This role ensures that the firm's information assets are managed in compliance with legal, regulatory, and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Program Development and Management
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive information governance strategy.
    • Establish and enforce IG policies, procedures, and standards.
    • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of the IG program and make necessary adjustments.
  2. Compliance and Risk Management
    • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
    • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate information-related risks.
    • Collaborate with the legal team to manage data privacy and security issues.
  3. Data Management
    • Oversee the classification, retention, and disposal of information assets.
    • Implement data governance frameworks to ensure data quality and integrity.
    • Collaborate with legal teams on electronic discovery (e-discovery) processes.
    • Manage litigation holds.
  4. Technology and Tools
    • Evaluate and implement IG technologies and tools.
    • Work with IT to ensure the security and integrity of information systems.
    • Stay updated on emerging IG technologies and trends.
  5. Training and Awareness
    • Develop and deliver IG training programs for staff.
    • Promote a culture of information governance awareness and compliance.
    • Provide guidance and support to employees on IG-related matters.
  6. Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate with various departments to integrate IG practices into business processes.
    • Communicate IG policies and procedures to all levels of the organization.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for IG-related inquiries and issues.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Law, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CIGO, CIP, CRM) is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in information governance, records management, or a related field, preferably within a law firm or legal environment.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of information governance principles and best practices.
    • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA).
    • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in IG technologies and tools.
Working Conditions
