Director of Alumni Relations

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Alumni Relations, the Director of Alumni Relations oversees alumni relations for various campus-wide programs and serves as primary staff for one or more schools or programs. This role directs the planning, organization, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of alumni relations programs, serving as a key contact between the campus and alumni population.

This position collaborates with development officers to develop strategic alumni programs with fundraising objectives in mind. Primary duties include establishing and implementing goals, strategies, activities, and programs that enable alumni associations to communicate effectively with and engage alumni, deploy them individually and collectively as important resources of the university, and serve alumni needs.

The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for establishing and maintaining comprehensive, service-oriented alumni programs for UCSF. This role collaborates with other UCSF alumni officers and spearheads campus-wide programs and events. The Director will also collaborate in identifying gaps within enterprise-wide alumni programming and assist in developing and supporting new initiatives.

This position serves as a liaison to one or more school-based alumni associations, assisting in goal setting, member recruitment, and meeting and budget maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement alumni relations strategies and programs
  • Collaborate with development officers to develop strategic alumni programs
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive alumni programs for UCSF
  • Collaborate with other UCSF alumni officers and spearhead campus-wide programs and events
  • Identify gaps within enterprise-wide alumni programming and develop new initiatives
  • Serve as liaison to school-based alumni associations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training
  • 5+ years of directly related work experience
  • Advanced knowledge of issues in higher education
  • Advanced knowledge of practices and procedures associated with building and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of alumni, internal, and external constituencies
  • Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Active listening skills and critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Skill to recognize potential areas of constituency concern and address, resolve, and/or mitigate problems or issues
  • Advanced project management skills
