Description
Overview of Responsibilities
This role entails overseeing and managing the operations within the Social Services Division of the Polk County Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA). The supervisor is tasked with the orientation and training of new personnel, ongoing development of current staff, allocation of duties and cases, performance assessments, and providing guidance and disciplinary measures as necessary. The supervisor is accountable for establishing both long-term and short-term objectives for their team to ensure the delivery of fair and effective services to all clients requiring assistance. This involves evaluating the evolving needs of the community, staff requirements, and staying informed about innovative service programs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Organizing and Directing: The supervisor assigns cases to social workers, maintains a balanced workload, and adapts work processes to meet program demands. They collaborate with management on significant decisions and crisis situations, and assist in legal preparations as needed.
- Reviewing Work: The supervisor monitors staff performance through case evaluations and informal discussions to ensure adherence to operational standards. They facilitate team meetings to clarify policies and regulations and assist in legal documentation for court proceedings.
- Planning: Responsible for formulating the strategic goals of the team, the supervisor assesses community needs and staff capabilities, maintaining accurate records and reports to evaluate unit performance.
- Training: Ensures that team members receive necessary training in compliance with legal and organizational policies, providing orientation for new hires and ongoing development for existing staff.
- Budgeting: Advises on financial requirements and oversees fiscal management within the unit, ensuring optimal use of funding sources and assisting in budget preparation.
- Counseling and Discipline: Conducts performance evaluations and provides support to staff in managing job-related challenges, applying disciplinary policies as required.
- Personnel Functions: Participates in the recruitment process and collaborates with management in planning agency meetings and developing policies.
- Setting Work Standards: Ensures compliance with agency policies and represents the organization in various community and state meetings.
Other duties may include community outreach and participation in agency workgroups. All employees may be required to assist during emergency situations, prioritizing such duties over regular responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Eight to ten years of experience in social work or human services at a supervisory or management level.
- Valid driver's license and successful completion of background checks.
Ability to perform all job-related duties, including lifting, prolonged standing, and operating necessary tools and equipment.
