Position Summary:
We are currently seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to enhance our interconnection team. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in power systems and a comprehensive understanding of the interactions between distributed generation and existing distribution and sub-transmission systems. This role is pivotal in our Transmission Prospecting initiatives, requiring close collaboration with internal teams across interconnection, project development, and finance to pinpoint potential photovoltaic (PV) sites, formulate prospecting strategies, and conduct transmission analyses for our projects.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Transmission Planning Engineer, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Acting as the regional Planning Engineer across multiple ISO territories;
  • Guiding developers in navigating the Transmission network to identify system capacity and optimal interconnection locations;
  • Creating Transmission Network Models utilizing PSSE, TARA, or similar software;
  • Conducting Transmission System analyses, including Power Flow, Stability, and Reactive Power Compensation;
  • Reviewing utility impact studies and providing constructive feedback on study methodologies;
  • Assisting project developers in assessing potential project sites for feasibility and identifying necessary network upgrades;
  • Demonstrating strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to achieving both short- and long-term strategic objectives;
  • Exhibiting knowledge of T&D protective relay schemes.
Qualifications:
While no single candidate will meet all criteria, the successful applicant will ideally have:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in power engineering, particularly in transmission planning;
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field;
  • A solid understanding of the transmission system impacts associated with the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DER) and engineering solutions to address these challenges;
  • Familiarity with T&D protective relay schemes;
  • The ability to lead strategic initiatives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment;
  • Strong organizational skills and a genuine commitment to achieving success;
  • Experience with power systems modeling software such as PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF, SKM/ETAP, Aspen, etc.;
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
