Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Lead Teacher for Exceptional Children to join our team at KIPP North Carolina Public Schools. As a key member of our instructional staff, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students with special needs, collaborating with colleagues to develop and implement effective instructional strategies, and contributing to a positive and inclusive school culture.

Responsibilities
  • Instructional Leadership: Provide instructional leadership to students with special needs, including developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and providing specially designed instruction (SDI) in a resource, co-taught, or self-contained setting.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and other support personnel to develop and implement effective instructional strategies and provide consultation on classroom accommodations, instructional modifications, and adaptive equipment.
  • Student Support: Provide care and/or instruction in self-help skills, such as toileting, dressing, feeding, and positioning, as needed, and ensure timely and accurate completion of annual reviews, reevaluations, and initial referrals.
  • Assessment and Data Analysis: Use assessment data to drive instruction and make lesson adjustments to meet students' needs, and maintain accurate, complete, and correct IEP records as required by law, regional policy, and administrative regulation.
Requirements
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant content area, such as special education, elementary education, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 2 full years of teaching experience in EC/SPED general curriculum in a pull-out or push-in setting, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid North Carolina teaching license, ability to seek reciprocity, or willingness to pursue state certification.
  • Skills: Demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap, zest, grit, professionalism, and a sense of humor.
