Responsibilities:
  • Assess and manage the health status of trauma patients through comprehensive physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Establish medical diagnoses, order and evaluate diagnostic studies, and perform and monitor therapeutic procedures under the direction of a supervising physician.
  • Record and document health appraisal data necessary to maintain, coordinate, and expedite required services.
  • Design and implement individualized management plans in collaboration with physicians, staff nurses, and other healthcare professionals for various patho-physiologic statuses common to trauma patients.
  • Perform admissions, discharges, and triage of patients as needed, in collaboration with medical staff, and as defined in the allied health standards of practice.
  • Document in the medical record according to policy and medical staff rules and regulations, with regards to content, notes, orders, security, and confidentiality.
  • Manage care of trauma patients within mutually agreed-upon protocols by Medicine and Nursing, including emergency resuscitation, prescribing appropriate treatment measures, and initiating a continuing treatment regime for health maintenance.
  • Act as a liaison and utilize teaching/learning principles coupled with expert clinical knowledge to promote and provide education to staff, patients, and patient families.
  • Promote superior customer service by serving as a role model, maintaining good working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, and employees, promoting a sense of teamwork within the program, and timely follow-up with patients, family members, physicians, and staff.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Certified Programs regarding administrative issues that require intervention and/or resolution.
  • Participate in trauma program initiatives related to verification and designation as a Level 2 Trauma Center.
  • Assist with trauma clinic for patient follow-up as indicated.
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to trauma patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information, to identify patient needs, and to provide care needed.
  • Provide formal and informal trauma-related in-services and educational programs in which expert knowledge base is shared with staff.
  • Adhere to medical staff bylaws as applicable to advanced practice nursing under allied health policies.
  • Maintain required credentials and perform approved procedures competently, per credentialing approval.
  • Maintain and enhance a current level of knowledge relative to advanced nursing professional practice by maintaining professional affiliations, keeping abreast of the latest practice trends, meeting continuing education requirements necessary for licensure, and utilizing, promoting, and initiating research in nursing practice.
  • Coordinate select projects/programs, including development and implementation of clinical pathways, guidelines, and protocols, as assigned by the Trauma Medical Director and/or Director of Certified Programs.
  • Utilize effective verbal and written communication skills with patients and colleagues.
  • Take on-call shifts as indicated, including after hours and weekends.
  • Follow North Oaks Health System's Compliance Program and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
Requirements:
  • Must hold current Nurse Practitioner licensure by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Meets for allied health professionals as established under medical staff bylaws.
  • Must be credentialed and approved for privileges through the established Medical Staff Committees initially and on an ongoing basis.
  • ATLS preferred, or must complete within 3 months of hire.
Physical Effort Required:

Must be capable of performing all areas of skill required in the day-to-day management of assigned areas.
