Join our Alliant Energy team as an Energy Field Specialist (Gas & Electric) and play a vital role in ensuring the safe and dependable delivery of energy to our customers.

As an Energy Field Specialist (Gas & Electric), you will carry out routine service tasks and related responsibilities on the company’s gas and electric systems.

This is a full-time role, typically requiring five days of work per week, with schedules that may vary based on operational needs.

This position includes responsibilities for responding to after-hours emergency calls, outages, and service requests.

Due to these requirements, candidates must reside within a 25-minute commute from the designated operating center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, remove, read, and replace gas and single-phase electric meters.
  • Connect and disconnect electric and gas meters.
  • Conduct periodic change-outs of single-phase electric and gas meters.
  • Ensure compliance of electric and gas service installations with applicable codes and company standards.
  • Test, adjust, and replace residential and small commercial gas regulators.
  • Investigate and resolve customer service issues related to electric and gas services.
  • Respond to gas leaks and carbon monoxide incidents, investigating odors and fumes.
  • Repair gas leaks on the company’s side of the meter, including above and below ground connections.
  • Install gas piping, including cutting and threading of pipes.
  • Assist in gas and electric emergencies as needed.
  • Conduct regulatory inspections of gas systems and perform routine maintenance.
  • Perform building maintenance as required.
  • Install and remove controls, such as time switches and recording instruments.
  • Support the training of new gas and service personnel as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and generate necessary reports.
  • Adhere to established procedures, operating practices, and safety regulations.
  • Locate underground utilities as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED is required.

Experience: Prior experience with re-lighting various gas appliances is preferred.

Successful completion of Alliant Energy's Field Technician training program and passing the Field Technician examination is required.

Other Requirements: A valid driver's license is necessary.
