Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Access Specialist to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patient access processing is performed in accordance with procedure and documented in a timely and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify key ADT information (insurance verification, patient and guarantor demographics, etc.) to ensure patient safety, charging, coding, insurance processing, and billing accuracy.
  • Schedule all new and follow-up patient appointments as required, and attempt to reschedule cancellations whenever possible.
  • Complete and document all governmental, regulatory, financial, and contractual forms in accordance with procedure.
  • Utilize price estimation tools to provide accurate estimates to patients.
  • Meet departmental targets for up-front collections, including deposits, estimated amounts due, co-pays, and/or prior balances.
  • Participate in departmental QA by utilizing system work queues, making personal efforts to reduce individual errors, and making corrections.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of customer service and/or clerical experience
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and procedures
Work Environment

This position is located in the Emergency Department and will work every other weekend. The hours are 9:30am to 6:00pm. If full-time staff are off, the teammate will work days during the week.
