ABOUT SAFE PLACE FOR YOUTH:

Safe Place for Youth (SPY) is a premier organization dedicated to serving youth who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness in West Los Angeles. Established in 2011, SPY provides trauma-informed, accessible programs designed to assist young individuals in leaving the streets and achieving lasting stability. Our comprehensive range of services includes outreach, drop-in support, health and wellness initiatives, case management, educational and employment resources, and housing assistance.

SPY is committed to addressing systemic barriers to equity and fostering community collaboration through innovative, youth-centered programming. ROLE SUMMARY:

The Site Associate will be an essential member of the housing team, operating at the Westwood (Ashton House) and Mar Vista (Mitchell House) locations. This role involves providing critical support and services to SPY members who are experiencing homelessness. The Site Associate will engage with residents, assisting them in overcoming challenges and facilitating their reintegration into the community. This position also entails maintaining site safety, documentation, and collaboration with various departments to ensure a positive experience for residents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for new youth residents, fostering rapport and encouraging participation in available programs.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the facility for residents, staff, and volunteers.
  • Organize and facilitate engagement activities, supporting program initiatives as required.
  • Provide conflict de-escalation and crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Collaborate with case management to coordinate care and support for residents, promoting their physical and mental well-being.
  • Maintain accurate records and data tracking in SPY's database and other required systems.
  • Complete necessary documentation and reports within established timelines.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local service providers and community organizations.
  • Utilize trauma-informed and harm-reduction approaches in all interactions.
  • Participate in collaborative meetings and community events as directed.
  • Conduct daily checks and maintain cleanliness and order in common areas.
  • Assist with meal preparation during designated times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the organization's mission.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • 1-2 years of experience in case management or counseling is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of direct service experience with high-risk youth is required.
  • Familiarity with social service resources for youth experiencing homelessness is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HMIS/CES systems is a plus.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of SPY.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Drive is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Involves prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
  • May require physical effort, including lifting up to 15-20 pounds.
