BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is seeking a highly skilled Senior Functional Safety Specialist to lead the application of ISO 26262 at all levels (system, sub-system, component) for Hardware and Software.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in functional safety and experience in developing state-of-the-art safety solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the main engineering customer interface for safety reviews and discussions
  • Providing evidence to OEM to support the safety case, as well as other required work products
  • Developing the Technical Safety Concept based on identified Product Safety Requirements and Functional Safety Concept
  • Ensuring traceability of safety requirements and design throughout the product lifecycle
  • Performing Functional Safety Analysis including FMEDA and FTA
  • Defining the safety architecture including ASIL decomposition, freedom from interference, dependent failures, required redundancies, and shutoff paths
  • Caching engineering teams to understand system safety concepts and implement these concepts in hardware and software designs
  • Providing required engineering input for the Safety Plan, Safety Concept, and Safety Case to the functional safety manager (FSM)
  • Ensuring the proper completion of verification reviews of safety work products
  • Leading the appropriate safety analysis to ensure all product development safety activities are performed, using industry best practices and the ISO process

    Requirements include:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Physics
    • Master's degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or Software Engineering preferred
    • 5+ years' experience in automotive system development (electrification preferred)
    • 3+ years' experience in functional safety preferred
    • Experience in applying functional safety to automotive drivetrain or propulsion systems is preferred
    • Organized and structured work style and attention to detail are required
    • Experience with safety analysis tool required and Medini Analyze is preferred
    • Knowledge or requirements and architecture engineering principles
    • Strong PC knowledge of Microsoft Office tools required
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language required
    • Willingness to travel up to 10% is preferred
