PRIMARY FUNCTION: This role is dedicated to delivering educational assistance and personal support to students with unique needs, operating under the guidance of the classroom teacher.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-5

WORK DAYS: 200

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Education Level: High School Diploma

Preferred: Associate Degree

  • Experience, Skill, and Certification:
  • Must fulfill Highly Qualified criteria for state licensure through one of the following:

2 years of college course credits;

Associate's degree; or

Passing score on the state-approved assessment.

Proven capability to reinforce concepts initially presented by the teacher and to assist students with enrichment, remedial, and independent tasks as outlined by the teacher.Familiarity with general office software applications and internet usage.Effective oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.Must possess the physical capability, dexterity, endurance, and temperament to work with students with special needs.

NOTE: For specific student populations, this position may necessitate specialized training (e.g., SID/PID, autism); the ability to lift and physically manage students who may exceed 100 pounds; the use of specialized equipment; and the capacity to assist with personal activities such as feeding, toileting, and diapering. These requirements will be discussed during the interview process.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience in setting up and operating instructional equipment and materials.
  • Experience in managing the behavior of children.
  • Experience working with children with special needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provides instructional support for assigned students under the direction of the teacher.
  • Prepares educational activities under the supervision of the Classroom Teacher, including the creation of bulletin boards, displays, and related classroom materials.
  • Participates in professional development training sessions.
  • Assists the Classroom Teacher with non-instructional responsibilities such as supervising students during meal times and ensuring their safety during various routines.
  • Supports individuals and/or small groups of students in diverse educational environments, including the media center and computer lab.
  • Handles clerical tasks as directed by the Classroom Teacher or Principal.
  • Assists with physical education instruction as needed.
  • Provides assistance to students with feeding, toileting, diapering, and other daily care routines as required.
  • Performs additional duties as necessary to enhance the effectiveness of the organization.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Incumbents will be regarded as 'at will.' Compensation will be determined based on the Grade as assessed by Human Resources and applicable experience. The work calendar will follow the classified 200-day schedule.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

A responsibility is classified as 'non-essential' if:

  • It is shared among multiple incumbents in the role; or
  • It could be executed by an employee in another position within the workgroup.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY DEMANDS:

OFFICE: Employees in this category typically work in a standard environment. They have some control over their sitting, standing, or movement durations. Occasionally, lifting or moving equipment or supplies may be required, along with bending, stooping, or stretching. Frequent use of computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment is expected, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are minimal exceptional physical or sensory demands.
