Position Overview

Role: Therapeutic Community Counselor

MAB Community Services is seeking innovative, dedicated, and experienced professionals to provide essential support for young adults in a pioneering, community-oriented residential program. This initiative offers a therapeutic environment designed to help young adults cultivate the necessary skills for successful community living, focusing on independent living, self-management, interdependence, and self-determination.

The Therapeutic Community Counselor plays a vital role in delivering direct support to residents throughout their daily activities, emphasizing the establishment and maintenance of therapeutic relationships, ensuring safety, and facilitating skill development. This position thrives on collaboration, offering opportunities to work closely with fellow counselors, a social worker, an occupational therapist, and an LPN. Additionally, the counselor will foster supportive connections with community partners and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with neurodivergent young adults facing complex mental health challenges.
  • Utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills to build healthy relationships with participants, team members, families, and external partners.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team player, providing and receiving constructive feedback, employing creative problem-solving techniques, and inspiring participants.
  • Provide direct support and guidance to residents, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or a minimum of 2 years of experience in a residential setting.
  • Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn reporting software.
  • Valid driver's license and capability to operate program vehicles for transporting participants to various appointments and activities.
  • Physical ability to engage in frequent walking, standing, and driving, with the capacity to lift and carry lightweight to moderately heavy items.
  • Availability for a full-time position with a variable schedule.
