Job Summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas (V) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Intake Specialist to join our team. As an Intake Specialist, you will serve as the initial point of contact for applicants seeking services through our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to inquiries from applicants regarding program eligibility requirements and other issues as needed.
  • Receiving current and future veteran applicants regarding program application process and policies for SSVF services.
  • Types various forms, reports, and related routine correspondences required as part of the application process.
  • Collaborate with local office Program Assistant, Case Managers, and Co-Team leads to serve all veterans during the intake process.
  • Maintains electronic and paper applicant files, including making appropriate entries into the applicant database or other databases such as AWARDS and Smartsheet.
  • Reports weekly on eligible and ineligible applicants.
  • Provides applicants with appropriate information and referral services.
  • Creates and maintains relationships with inter- and intra-agency partners and departments regarding housing and support services for applicants.
Requirements
  • Minimum four-year degree or comparable 2-4 years of experience working directly with families and at-risk populations.
  • Ability to organize, assign tasks, and supervise volunteer staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be proactive and work well with diverse populations.
  • Requires ability to frequently face deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Complete tasks along with required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Peer Support Specialist preferred.
