WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
This role will collaborate closely with the Banking and Control Officer for Corporate Functions at City National Bank, serving as a key advisor and partner to the Risk Framework leadership team. The position involves identifying issues, designing solutions, and implementing strategies that leverage industry standards and regulatory insights. The incumbent is expected to contribute positively while balancing challenges, ensuring that business objectives align with the bank's risk appetite and established limits.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the creation and execution of new initiatives and strategies, ensuring compliance with regulations, rules, and risk management requirements.
- Conduct thorough analyses and periodic reviews of current risk management practices throughout the organization, including network affiliates. Work collaboratively with colleagues across various lines to enhance the control environment and improve risk management practices.
- Evaluate data impacting technical, operational, and business functions, providing insights into practical implications for the business line.
- Implement critical risk program functions, including Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Issue Management, and Operational Losses. Offer informed risk and control perspectives to executive management.
- Foster a strong risk culture, promoting risk awareness and literacy within the first line of defense, including the design and implementation of preventive and detective controls.
- Guide team members in conducting research, analyzing, and interpreting data to support strategic initiatives, organizational planning, and adjustments to the business model.
- Serve as the liaison for all business line risk management, compliance activities, legal engagements, and audits.
- Represent the Business Control Office in both internal and external meetings, establishing and nurturing strong relationships with stakeholders. Attend meetings on behalf of senior management, providing feedback and escalating decisions as necessary.
- Build and maintain effective relationships across all business lines and staff areas to ensure opportunities are identified, analyzed, and managed effectively.
- Collaborate with team members to create concise communication materials for senior management. Develop engaging presentations for meetings that effectively convey key messages.
- Prioritize organizational risk management objectives and lead special projects as needed.
- Facilitate audit and examination activities.
- Develop and nurture risk talent within the organization through coaching, mentoring, and assisting with relevant training.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 8 years managing projects.
- A minimum of 8 years in financial services or a related field.
- Preferred: MBA, JD, or other advanced degrees.
- 8-10 years of project management experience.
- 8-10 years in roles requiring complex problem-solving.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels.
- Proficient in defining and deconstructing problems, prioritizing issues, and conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses.
- Knowledgeable in Financial Services and Project Management.
- Demonstrated ability to influence change, build relationships, and communicate effectively under pressure.
- Proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Exceptional analytical skills and a structured approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to operate well under stress and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills.
- Capable of simplifying complexity and handling uncertainty.
Starting base salary: $127,626 - $237,014 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonuses and/or commissions.
