Position Overview

The Emergency Care Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting licensed healthcare professionals by executing designated tasks and services essential for delivering high-quality patient care.

This role adheres to established standards, regulatory guidelines, and organizational policies and procedures.

A patient-centered care model employing a collaborative approach is utilized to provide care within the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Delivers compassionate and respectful care tailored to the individual needs of patients.
  • Prepares examination areas by cleaning stretchers and ensuring readiness for incoming patients.
  • Supports patients with their elimination needs while maintaining their privacy and dignity.
  • Assists in feeding patients accurately and effectively.
  • Contributes to the stocking of supplies in treatment rooms and emergency carts.
  • Facilitates patient mobility through various tasks.
  • Conducts incentive spirometry and pulse oximetry with precision.
  • Actively participates in the Emergency Care Support Specialist Practice Council.
  • Collects blood samples through venipuncture and/or capillary finger stick.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience:
One year of experience as a nursing assistant in a healthcare setting is required OR
Successful completion of an accredited CNA or PCT training program is required OR
Currently enrolled in a nursing degree program and have completed an introductory nursing course such as Nursing 101 or equivalent OR
One year of experience as an EMT.

Licenses and Certifications:
BLS certification (from the American Heart Association) is mandatory.
Phlebotomy certification is preferred.
EKG certification is preferred.
EMT certification is preferred.
*Certifications in Glucose, Phlebotomy, and EKG are provided during orientation.
Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification is required, with new hires obtaining certification within three months of employment. Renewal certifications will be conducted every two years.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
Possesses strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with all members of the healthcare team.
