Job Title: Highway Maintenance Specialist

Join the State of Colorado team as a Highway Maintenance Specialist and play a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of Colorado's transportation infrastructure.

About the Job

This is a physically demanding position that requires working in all weather conditions and in close proximity to high-speed traffic. As a Highway Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks, including:

  • Plowing snow and ice from roadways
  • Operating heavy equipment, such as tandem dump trucks and front-end loaders
  • Mowing grass and weeds along roadways
  • Removing debris from roadways, including rocks, mud, and deceased animals
  • Installing and repairing guardrails, highway markers, and signs
  • Filling potholes and roadway cracks
  • Setting out signs and cones for traffic control
  • Removing and covering graffiti
  • Installing pavement markings and striping
  • Stopping or slowing traffic in emergency situations
  • Maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B with no restrictions on air brakes
  • At least two years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and in close proximity to high-speed traffic
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy equipment and materials
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors
