Field Biology Specialist

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Field Biological Technician to support our environmental projects in the southern/central California and Nevada region. This is a field-based, part-time position that requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on assisting with biological surveys, vegetation mapping, habitat restoration, and wildlife assessments under the direction of a senior biologist.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in biology and ecology, with experience in conducting biological surveys and environmental compliance monitoring. They will be responsible for conducting wildlife and/or botanical surveys, identifying and recording native and non-native fauna and/or flora in the field, and conducting special-status species surveys following established protocols or guidelines. They will also assist with environmental compliance monitoring, oversight of restoration crew work, and native seed collection activities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of southern California and/or southern Nevada wildlife and plant species, as well as familiarity with regulatory requirements under the federal Endangered Species Act, California Endangered Species Act, NEPA, CEQA, and the Clean Water Act. They will be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and thrive independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities- Conduct wildlife and/or botanical surveys, including vegetation and habitat mapping.
- Identify and record native and non-native fauna and/or flora in the field.
- Conduct special-status species surveys, following established protocols or guidelines as relevant.
- Assist with environmental compliance monitoring.
- Oversight of restoration crew work and native seed collection activities.
- Botanical knowledge and ability to evaluate phenology for native seed scouting.
- Conduct restoration vegetation performance monitoring.
- Perform other related duties assigned, such as coordination with team members, scheduling of work, etc.
- Utilize electronic data collection methods (including GPS).
- Conduct monitoring and survey fieldwork as part of a team and alone in inland and desert environments, which can include rugged terrain.
