CURE Auto Insurance is seeking an experienced Defense Attorney - Litigation Specialist to join our team in Detroit, Michigan. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for handling BI/Third-Party files from inception through trial and appeal, if necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Staff Counsel will be responsible for handling BI/Third Party files from inception through trial and appeal, if necessary.
  • Take and defend lay and expert depositions, extensive motion practice, as well as trying cases to verdict.
  • Lead and manage a caseload where work is time sensitive.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies for defending BI/Third-Party claims.
  • Collaborate with support staff to ensure efficient and effective lawsuit handling.
  • Stay up-to-date with local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience handling BI/Third-party litigation from inception to conclusion, including trials to verdict.
  • First chair trials to verdict.
  • Ability to take full responsibility for files.
  • Must be able to handle a full inventory of files.
  • Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law commensurate with level of experience.
  • Experience presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses.
  • Experience directing support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to lawsuit handling.
  • Experience working in a paperless electronic environment.
  • Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Handling of automobile negligence defense matters.

Additional Information:

  • Must have a law degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and excellent academic credentials.
  • Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
  • Must have tried BI/Third-Party cases in Michigan to verdict.
