Compensation Structure
At Atlassian, we are dedicated to creating fair and transparent compensation frameworks. Our baseline salary ranges are designed to exceed typical market standards, and we aim to hire most candidates close to this baseline. Compensation is influenced by individual skills, expertise, and experience. For this role, the salary ranges in the United States are as follows:
Zone A: $279,600 - $372,800
Zone B: $251,600 - $335,500
Zone C: $232,100 - $309,400
This position may also qualify for additional benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Senior Principal Engineer to lead initiatives within the Enterprise team, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering for the Enterprise Platform. This role involves addressing critical challenges for Atlassian, facilitating the transition of Enterprise clients to cloud solutions, and applying enterprise-level strategies across our product suite to enhance the experience for all customer segments. You will collaborate with approximately 1000 engineers to tackle complex issues, providing technical guidance, prioritization, design, architecture, and hands-on development.
In this Role, You Will:
- Develop and communicate a strategic vision and roadmap for various projects within the Enterprise team.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on company-wide initiatives.
- Inspire and guide technical teams by exemplifying engineering excellence in design, architecture, and coding practices.
- Create and implement systems that are reliable, secure, maintainable, and scalable.
- Mentor and develop engineers and engineering managers.
- Act as a trusted advisor to engineering leaders within the Enterprise team and across the organization.
- Identify future needs and challenges while addressing current engineering obstacles.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and evaluate their potential impact on Atlassian's direction.
Your Qualifications:
On your first day, we expect you to possess:
- Over 15 years of experience in technical leadership and expertise in designing and building cloud-based enterprise solutions using platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience in creating scalable platforms and components widely utilized across organizations.
- Capability to define technical direction and educate the broader organization in your area of expertise.
- A passion for software engineering excellence, providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship.
- Experience in identifying and reconciling gaps and redundancies across teams.
- Ability to articulate clear technical solutions and lead engineers in collaborative efforts across multiple teams.
- Hands-on coding experience and proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Kotlin, C, or C++.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of industry experience.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science.
- In-depth knowledge of public cloud environments, particularly AWS, with transferable skills from other providers.
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems, cloud data management, storage technologies, and security protocols.
- Experience leading engineering teams through significant technology transformations.
