The Clinical Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of Capacity Management. This includes, but is not limited to, the coordination of patient placements and the management of patient flow to ensure effective and efficient care delivery. This position is designed to eliminate obstacles related to patient placement and flow, while maintaining clear communication with various stakeholders, including Nurse Managers, Administrative Supervisors, and Medical Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes clinical expertise to facilitate the admission of elective and emergency patients, as well as transfers from other healthcare facilities, in line with established clinical standards.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of various disease processes and epidemiological factors that influence patient placement.
  • Monitors bed availability and accelerates patient transfers as necessary.
  • Conducts rounds in the Emergency Department to identify discharge barriers, foster relationships with staff, and educate them about the Clinical Operations Supervisor's role.
  • Assesses bed availability across nursing units and pending discharges to ensure the Emergency Department's needs are met.
  • Acts as a resource for patient placement staff regarding unit capabilities and the types of equipment or medications permissible on each unit.
  • Maintains awareness of patient volume and types in the Emergency Department.
  • Employs technology to ensure accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues to support the medical center's mission.
  • Demonstrates accountability for personal and peer professional development through ongoing education and evaluation.
  • Implements downtime procedures when necessary.
  • Exhibits strong problem-solving abilities and makes informed decisions in a dynamic environment.
  • Practices active listening to accurately interpret and respond to inquiries.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service by maintaining a positive and approachable demeanor, ensuring timely communication regarding updates until resolution.
  • Fosters a collaborative team environment, demonstrating a commitment to departmental goals and a willingness to work flexible hours to provide continuous service.
  • Performs additional duties and projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications:

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • A minimum of three years of professional nursing experience in an Emergency Department setting.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Familiarity with state and agency regulations governing nursing practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or a related discipline.
  • National nursing certification.
  • Prior experience in bed management or patient progression.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • New Jersey State Professional Registered Nurse License.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification.

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • National Nursing Certification.
