The Pediatric Quality Improvement Specialist works closely with leadership across service lines to create, execute, and manage robust systems aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and the overall quality of care.

This role provides expertise in project management and quality enhancement initiatives related to Pediatric Vital Signs (PVS), aligning with the overarching mission of Nationwide Children's Hospital by spearheading performance enhancements that resonate with the strategic objectives.

Collaborating with Pediatric Vital Signs physicians and operational leaders, this position aims to foster improvements in healthcare delivery and health outcomes for the pediatric population, while partnering with relevant stakeholders to ensure cohesive quality improvement strategies.


Work Schedule:
Full-time, Monday to Friday (1st shift)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with service line leadership to formulate a quality improvement (QI) project portfolio that aligns with the hospital's strategic objectives, service line performance metrics, and accreditation standards. Provides project management support for PVS initiatives, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, relationship building, and goal setting to achieve targeted outcomes. Engages in continuous readiness programs to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Employs project management and change management methodologies to assist teams of community partners, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders in enhancing health outcomes for children. Utilizes expertise in improvement science and team facilitation to guide teams toward achieving their project objectives. Actively participates in hospital-wide initiatives and national collaborations aimed at eliminating preventable harm.
  • Works in partnership with stakeholders, leveraging data analysis and statistical process control to transform data into actionable insights that inform decisions impacting patient outcomes and quality improvement initiatives. Communicates quality outcome metrics and patient satisfaction data to leadership, assisting teams in developing quality indicators and identifying necessary resources and educational needs to meet performance targets. Collaborates with clinicians to present and publish findings.
  • Utilizes the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Model for Improvement as the foundation for quality enhancement efforts. Provides training on the IHI Model for Improvement to service lines, project teams, and staff. Mentors healthcare professionals in the Quality Improvement Essentials course, promoting hospital-wide adoption of the IHI Model.
  • Maintains a current understanding of continuous quality improvement practices through reviewing relevant literature, attending professional conferences, and networking with peers in the healthcare sector.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, healthcare, or a related business field.

Certifications:

  • Certification as a Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills essential for effective meeting facilitation, presentations, relationship development, and clear communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in analyzing and interpreting statistical data, including the ability to interpret statistical process control charts; skilled in conveying data narratives that inspire practice changes.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for manipulating and analyzing extensive data sets using pivot tables, formulas, and visual representations.
  • Excellent prioritization abilities.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in quality improvement and/or process enhancement roles.
