Position Overview:
Pactiv Evergreen Inc. is a prominent manufacturer and distributor specializing in fresh foodservice and food merchandising products, as well as fresh beverage cartons across North America and select international markets.

Our clientele includes a diverse array of businesses, such as full-service and quick-service restaurants, foodservice distributors, supermarkets, grocery retailers, health-focused stores, and various food and beverage producers.

The Athens Carton Converting Facility, operational since 1951, employs approximately 200 individuals and is responsible for shipping over two billion gable top cartons each year.

The Food Quality Engineer, acting as the SQF Practitioner, spearheads the Food Safety and training initiatives at the Athens facility while overseeing quality assurance programs and projects.

This role entails leading the comprehensive food safety process, which encompasses the HACCP (Hazards and Critical Control Points) system, regulatory audits, documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), food safety audits, field complaints, and various related programs and policies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing SQF (Safety Quality Food) Plans to secure and maintain SQF Certification at the facility, ensuring compliance with all Pactiv Evergreen Corporation food safety requirements.
  • Managing food safety programs, including pest control, janitorial services, and vendor/supplier audits.
  • Leading the SQF hourly team and facilitating monthly food safety internal audits and FSLT meetings.
  • Maintaining the food safety program calendar and Beverage Merchandising SQF Illuminator.
  • Overseeing plant compliance and interactions with the SQF Certification Body.
  • Training staff and maintaining comprehensive training records on critical food safety requirements.
  • Monitoring, verifying, and validating activities to ensure all products meet the facility's Food Safety Plans.
  • Providing guidance in situations where deviations occur or potential risks are identified regarding food safety attributes.
  • Managing product quality gauge procedures, gauge R&R, calibration, and maintenance programs.
  • Supporting the QA Team Leader with supply complaint feedback and periodic analysis of board issues.
  • Acting as a backup for the QA Team Leader in managing customer complaints and routine reporting.
  • Serving as a Super User for Gain Seeker software and conducting rollout and sustainability training.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Engineering Paper Science, or a related field is preferred, along with approximately 3 to 5 years of SQF experience in a manufacturing training capacity.

Additional qualifications include:

  • SQF Lead Auditor Training.
  • Demonstrated technical writing, research, and development skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Minitab, and other relevant software applications.
  • Active participation in Job Task and Training Needs Analysis processes.
  • A strong general knowledge of facility processes and their safety, food safety, and environmental impacts.
