Spacecraft Power System Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Spacecraft Power System Engineer to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our Space Exploration Sector, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and testing reliable spacecraft power systems for our space sector and broader space community.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the development of power system concepts and designs for spacecraft missions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate power systems into spacecraft
- Perform conceptual design studies and help develop mission proposals
- Develop subsystem and hardware component requirements, test plans, and perform requirements verification
- Estimate battery capacities, solar array sizes, and predict system performance
- Lead power system integration and test onto spacecraft, and support launch and flight operations
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 7-15 years of experience developing spacecraft power systems
- Team leadership positions
- Familiarity with common spacecraft power system topologies
- Skilled in solar array and battery performance prediction, sizing, and system energy balance
- Ability to support occasional overnight travel
- Top Secret level security clearance
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience designing primary power regulation or distribution hardware
- Experience with primary battery technologies
- Experience leading multidisciplinary electronics development teams
- Experience with alternative spacecraft power sources such as nuclear sources
- TS/SCI Security Clearance
