We are seeking a Legal Support Specialist to join our team at West 4th Strategy. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the Department of Health and Human Services, specifically within the Office of the Secretary, Departmental Appeals Board. Your primary responsibilities will include efficiently screening Medicare appeals, preparing documentation for U.S. Federal Court, and ensuring the accuracy of claim files.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial evaluations of Medicare appeals promptly upon assignment.
- Prepare comprehensive administrative records for U.S. District Court.
- Review claim files for completeness and proper jurisdiction.
- Manage the electronic filing system for new appeals.
- Utilize Adobe Pro to convert documents into PDF format.
- Request and retrieve missing Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) hearing files within a specified timeframe.
- Ensure timely uploading of documents upon receipt.
- Draft interim letters to address case processing errors efficiently.
- Maintain correspondence and manage incoming appeal requests.
- Log all incoming mail and refer unusual inquiries to the appropriate authority.
- Prepare acknowledgment letters and update relevant systems to reflect the status of claim files.
- Facilitate the preparation and distribution of final decisions and orders.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of one year of experience in legal research.
- Proficient in preparing and reviewing legal documents and briefings.
- Strong analytical skills for evaluating legal documents.
- Experience in utilizing various resources for legal research.
Education and Certifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent graduate qualification.
- Substitution of two years of higher-level graduate education leading to a J.D. or LL.B is acceptable.
Location: Washington, DC
Clearance Requirements:
- Must meet HSPD-12 credentialing standards.
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass a background investigation are required.
Travel: Some travel may be necessary.
Work Hours: Full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.
Employment Classification: Eligible for W2 classification.
Relocation: Potential eligibility for relocation benefits.
