MRI Technologist, Cancer Center

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an experienced MRI Technologist to join our team at Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for performing high-quality MRI scans, ensuring patient safety, and providing exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities- Review physician orders for accuracy and completeness, and ensure that all necessary information is obtained before performing the MRI scan.
- Screen patients for MRI appropriateness and review any contraindications for exams, including implants, metallic devices, or other foreign objects that may prohibit or modify the MRI exam.
- Discuss findings with the physicist and radiologist as applicable, and document changes as necessary in the electronic health record.
- Ensure that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
- Administer intravenous injections of contrast material as appropriate, and observe patients for adverse reactions.
- Perform MRI scans, ensuring that patients meet safety requirements and follow established protocols.
- Assist patients in dressing for the exam and attend to their physical well-being while transporting to and from the exam room and positioning for the exam.
- Communicate with patients and/or their family members (as appropriate) regarding the tests to be performed and evaluate their ability to tolerate the exam.
- Perform QC testing and report problems with MRI systems and workstations to the service engineer/biomed, with additional correspondence sent to the physicist and imaging leadership.
- Maintain various data sets, including baseline scans, 12-month scans, and 24-month scans, and archive them as necessary.
- Perform post-processing on MRI systems and remote workstations, including MIPing, MPR, 3-D rendering, qualitative and color mapping for breast imaging, ADC mapping and color mapping of diffusion scans, cardiac analysis to assess cardiac function, and spectroscopy analysis.
- Respond to inquiries, calls, and emails in a timely and professional manner, and communicate shift hand-offs regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff.
- Engage in equitable distribution of departmental workloads, and actively participate in providing orientation and training for new hires and students, ensuring that procedures are performed according to set standards.
- Collaborate with other service lines to provide comprehensive patient care, and prioritize exams to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times, and address stat and urgent requests.
- Adhere to hospital policies, regulatory compliance, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscally responsible practices regarding equipment, supplies, scheduling, and overtime.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure that all processes and procedures are maintained to secure and protect all workstations in all work areas.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment.
- Two years of MRI experience preferred.
