UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist to join our team at Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. As an MRI Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to our patients.
Responsibilities- Review physician orders for accuracy and completeness, and ensure that all necessary information is obtained before performing MRI exams.
- Screen patients for MRI appropriateness and review any contraindications for exams, including implants, metallic devices, or other foreign objects that may prohibit or modify the MRI exam.
- Discuss findings with the physicist and radiologist as applicable, and modify MRI protocols as needed to ensure accurate and safe imaging.
- Document changes in the electronic health record and ensure that all necessary resources, including nursing, are scheduled accordingly.
- Interview patients, conduct patient screening, and obtain medical history pertaining to procedure clinical criteria.
- Explain procedures and instruct patients on necessary requirements needed to provide diagnostic images.
- Answer questions and screening concerning procedures and IV contrast for relevant exams.
- Assist physicians as needed in performing procedures, and ensure that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
- Utilize technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age-specific criteria.
- Complete exam charges and image documentation in a timely manner, and administer intravenous injections of contrast material as appropriate, observing patients for adverse reactions.
- Perform MRI exams, ensuring that patients meet safety requirements to MRI contraindications, and assist patients in dressing for exams and attending to their physical well-being while transporting to and from exam rooms and positioning for exams.
- Instruct and communicate with patients and/or patient families (as appropriate) regarding the tests to be performed and evaluate patients' ability to tolerate.
- Perform QC testing and report problems with MRI systems and workstations to the service engineer/biomed, with additional correspondence sent to the physicist and imaging leadership.
- Maintain various data sets, including baseline scans, 12-month scans, and 24-month scans, and archive data.
- Perform post-processing on MRI systems and remote workstations, including MIPing, MPR, 3-D rendering, qualitative and color mapping for breast imaging, ADC mapping and color mapping of diffusion scans, cardiac analysis to assess cardiac function, including ejection fractions and wall thickness, spectroscopy analysis, and calculation of T1 and T2 values.
- Respond to inquiries, calls, and emails in a timely and professional manner, and communicate shift hand-offs regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff.
- Engage in equitable distribution of departmental workloads, and actively participate in providing orientation and training for new hires and students, ensuring that procedures are performed according to set standards.
- Function as a part of an interdisciplinary team and collaborate in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines.
- Prioritize exams with scheduling exams to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times, and address stat and urgent requests.
- Adhere to hospital policies, regulatory compliance, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscally responsible with regards to equipment, supplies, scheduling, overtime, etc.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure that all processes and procedures are maintained to secure and protect all workstations in all work areas.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment.
- Two years of MRI experience preferred.
