LOCATION:
Assigned Campus
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
This role is designed to assist with the Social Services component in accordance with Head Start guidelines. The specialist will engage directly with families interested in enrolling their children in the program. Responsibilities include recruitment, enrollment, attendance monitoring, and establishing family partnership agreements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Preferred Background:
Experience in social services (optional)
Skills:
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal social services programs
• Proficient in computer and office software
• Competent in typing, word processing, and file management
EXPERIENCE:
Experience working with children and/or families
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Personal Effectiveness:
• Collaborates effectively with parents, staff, and students in a professional manner.
• Treats children and colleagues fairly and equitably.
• Contributes ideas for enhancing the Family/Community Partnership area.
• Engages as a team member to provide families with a positive experience.
Performance Effectiveness:
• Aids in the recruitment and enrollment of children, including eligibility verification and local outreach.
• Monitors children's attendance and conducts home visits as necessary.
• Provides direct services to families, ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
• Refers families to appropriate agencies and maintains required documentation.
• Develops Family Partnership Agreements for each family.
• Keeps parents informed about available community services.
• Maintains accurate records of all social services activities as required.
• Transports children and/or parents when necessary.
• Participates in workshops to stay updated on current Head Start practices.
• Inputs family and student data into the designated management system.
Professional Effectiveness:
• Maintains communication with teachers to share relevant information about children and families.
• Assists parents with concerns regarding their children.
• Collaborates with community agencies to address the needs of Head Start families.
• Engages in professional organizations and attends workshops for skill development.
• Pursues professional growth relevant to job responsibilities, including obtaining a Family Service Worker credential.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands:
• Maintains emotional control under stress and works with frequent interruptions.
Physical Demands:
• Light lifting and carrying, reaching above shoulder level, and repetitive hand motions; frequent bending and stooping; prolonged use of computer.
Environmental Demands:
• Normal office environment with potential exposure to childhood communicable diseases; good health and stamina are essential.
