Position Title: Bus Driver

Salary: $115-$165/day

Role Summary:

Académie Lafayette is seeking a dedicated School Bus Driver responsible for safely transporting students to and from educational institutions and extracurricular activities. This role involves adhering to a predetermined route while prioritizing the safety and well-being of all passengers.

Employment Status:

This is a part-time, non-exempt position in accordance with U.S. Department of Labor regulations.

Reporting Structure:

The Bus Driver will report directly to the Bus Supervisor/Dispatcher and the Director of Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor traffic and weather conditions to ensure passenger safety.
  • Adhere to the designated route and schedule for pickups and drop-offs.
  • Conduct regular safety checks on the vehicle, including tires, brakes, and lights.
  • Refuel the bus when not in use to ensure operational readiness.
  • Safely transport students and other passengers to their destinations.
  • Comply with all traffic regulations to guarantee student safety.
  • Maintain a clean and mechanically sound vehicle at all times.
  • Report any mechanical or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.
  • Ensure the safety of students during boarding and disembarking.
  • Assist students as necessary when getting on and off the bus.
  • Engage positively with students during their commute.
  • Keep detailed records of all maintenance performed on the bus.
  • Participate in staff and safety training sessions.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus.
  • Engage in performance evaluations as part of the bus driver team.
  • Maintain an updated driver file, including licensing and background checks.
  • Report any driving violations that may impact licensing.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents, students, and school staff.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and school personnel regarding any concerns.
  • Notify parents of any changes to routes or schedules.
  • Conduct emergency drills and mock evacuations as required.
  • Provide receipts for all expenses related to vehicle maintenance.
  • Collaborate effectively with City Wide Transportation, Inc.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic violations in the past five years.
  • Preferred experience of two or more years working with children.
  • Ability to adhere to assigned routes punctually.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License, maintained throughout employment.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background check.
  • Registration and clearance with the Family Care and Safety Registry.
  • Participation in the DOT drug screening program is required.
  • Willingness to make decisions that enhance the transportation model at Académie Lafayette.
