Job Overview

Position Title: Bus Driver

Salary: $115-$165/day

Role Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated School Bus Driver to support the Académie Lafayette Public Charter Schools by safely transporting students to and from educational institutions and extracurricular activities. This role is essential in ensuring the well-being of our students during transit.

Employment Status:

This is a part-time role within Académie Lafayette, classified as a non-exempt position according to U.S. Department of Labor regulations.

Reporting Structure:

The Bus Driver will report directly to the Bus Supervisor/Dispatcher and the Director of Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain vigilance regarding traffic and weather conditions to guarantee passenger safety.
  • Adhere to the designated route and schedule for student pickups and drop-offs.
  • Conduct regular safety checks on the vehicle, including tires, brakes, lights, and other essential equipment.
  • Refuel the bus when it is unoccupied to ensure timely route completion.
  • Safely transport students and other passengers to their destinations.
  • Comply with all traffic regulations to ensure safe arrival for students.
  • Keep the bus clean and in good mechanical condition at all times.
  • Report any mechanical or safety concerns to the immediate supervisor.
  • Ensure the safety of all students while boarding and disembarking the bus.
  • Assist students as necessary during the boarding and alighting process.
  • Engage positively with students during their time on the bus.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance performed on the bus.
  • Participate in staff meetings and safety training sessions.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus.
  • Engage in the evaluation process for bus driver performance.
  • Keep an updated bus driver file that includes a Motor Vehicle Report, driver licensing, background checks, and other pertinent information.
  • Report any driving violations that may impact licensing status.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents, students, and school staff.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators, addressing their concerns promptly.
  • Notify parents of any changes to routes, schedules, or timings.
  • Conduct emergency drills and mock evacuations as required.
  • Provide receipts for all expenses related to fuel, oil changes, and preventive maintenance to the Bus Supervisor/Dispatcher.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with City Wide Transportation, Inc.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations in the past five years.
  • Preferred: Two or more years of experience working with children.
  • Ability to adhere to the assigned route and schedule punctually.
  • Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive MACHS Fingerprinting Background check is required.
  • Registration and clearance with the Family Care and Safety Registry is necessary.
  • Participation in the DOT drug screening program is mandatory.
  • Willingness to make decisions that enhance the transportation model of Académie Lafayette.

  • Willingness to provide information for background check clearance.
