Compensation: $16.73 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. This position requires countywide travel. The work schedule is variable and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

This role involves performing fundamental technical tasks related to hazardous materials management at the Solid Waste Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers. Responsibilities include the daily handling of chemicals and household hazardous waste, along with the frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or its equivalent, along with one (1) year of experience in hazardous waste materials handling, environmental science, chemistry, biology, or a closely related field. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain it throughout employment. Additionally, candidates must acquire a valid OSHA twenty-four (24) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification within six (6) months of employment, in accordance with 29 CFR regulations. A valid Department of Transportation (DOT) eight (8) hour Hazardous Materials Transportation certification must also be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Successful completion of an OSHA-compliant forklift training course within six (6) months of employment is required, along with the ability to safely operate a forklift. New employees must satisfactorily complete all of the Brevard County Mandatory Training within nine (9) months of employment. Candidates must be physically capable of properly wearing and utilizing all required PPE at all times and must be available to work on Saturdays and holidays as required. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, or any natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
