Salary: $16.73 hourly. Actual compensation negotiable based on experience and qualifications. The role requires countywide travel, with a variable work schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.

This position involves performing fundamental technical tasks related to hazardous materials management at the Solid Waste Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers. Responsibilities include the daily handling of chemicals and household hazardous waste, along with frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with one (1) year of experience in hazardous waste materials handling, environmental science, chemistry, biology, or a closely related field. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements:

Candidates must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain it throughout employment. Additionally, candidates must obtain within six (6) months of employment a valid OSHA twenty-four (24) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification, as per the requirements of 29 CFR, and maintain this certification during employment. A valid Department of Transportation (DOT) eight (8) hour Hazardous Materials Transportation certification must also be obtained within six (6) months of employment, along with successful completion of an OSHA-compliant forklift training course within the same timeframe.

Employees must be physically capable of wearing and utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and be available to work on Saturdays and holidays as needed. In case of emergencies such as hurricanes or major disasters, employees will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
