Salary: $16.73 hourly. Actual compensation negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Position requires countywide travel. Work schedule is variable and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

This role involves performing foundational technical tasks related to hazardous materials management at the Solid Waste Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers. Responsibilities include the daily handling of chemicals and household hazardous waste, along with the frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in hazardous waste materials handling, environmental science, chemistry, biology, or a closely related field. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must obtain within six (6) months of employment, a valid OSHA twenty-four (24) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification, in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR, and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Must also obtain within six (6) months of employment, a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) eight (8) hour Hazardous Materials Transportation certification and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Successful completion of an OSHA-compliant forklift training course within six (6) months of employment is required, along with the ability to safely operate a forklift. Completion of all Brevard County Mandatory Training for New Employees within nine (9) months of employment is also necessary. Must be physically capable of properly wearing and utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Availability to work Saturdays and holidays as required is essential. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, or any natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
