About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Engineering Director to lead our Music team at Duolingo. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for shaping the future of learning by developing innovative solutions that make a meaningful impact on our users.

This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic leadership, business insight, and technical knowledge to drive the growth and success of our Music course. You will be responsible for defining the strategy and setting the roadmap for your teams, working closely with cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

We are looking for a strong technical leader with a deep understanding of software engineering principles and a passion for music and learning. You will be responsible for shaping key decisions about architecture and implementation, driving the planning and execution of technical projects, and mentoring and coaching newer managers and engineers.

As an Engineering Director at Duolingo, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from developing new features and technologies to improving the overall user experience. You will be part of a collaborative and dynamic team that is passionate about making a positive impact on education and learning.

Responsibilities
  • Define the strategy and set the roadmap for your teams
  • Be a strong cross-functional partner with product, design, and data science teams
  • Shape key decisions about architecture and implementation of scalable and high-quality engineering solutions
  • Drive the planning, execution, and success of technical projects
  • Mentor and coach newer managers and engineers
Requirements
  • Strong technical chops, including software engineering principles and experience with music and learning technologies
  • Strong business acumen, including a deep understanding of the business and industry trends
  • Solid product sense, including a deep understanding of how products and features work and how to improve them
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, including the ability to mentor and coach newer managers and engineers
