Position Title: Estimator II

Reports to: Director of Estimating

Position Status: Permanent – Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt (STOT)

Location: Pasadena, TX

Work Schedule: Standard schedule is Monday through Friday.

Objective: To deliver exceptional estimating support and serve as a crucial resource for project management and teams throughout the proposal and project execution phases. Responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of the company's estimating protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all company and project objectives are comprehensively understood and executed by estimating personnel.
  • Analyze proposal specifications and drawings to ascertain the scope of work and participate in pre-bid meetings as necessary. Oversee the construction estimating process and uphold a standardized estimating methodology.
  • Assist the project management team in formulating estimates. Create quantity surveys based on plans, specifications, and conceptual data (e.g., P&IDs).
  • Produce material take-offs (MTOs) from client-provided drawings and specifications for obtaining purchase-ready quotes, in collaboration with the Purchasing Department.
  • Develop detailed subcontractor scopes of work (SOW) from bid documents, delineating responsibilities and detailed supply scopes among Client, H+M, and Subcontractor. Facilitate communication between Client and Subcontractor for site visits and clarifications during the bidding phase.
  • Assign labor values to tasks that H+M will self-perform, demonstrating strong knowledge of civil, structural, mechanical equipment, and piping installation.
  • Incorporate feedback from Senior Estimators and Construction Management into future estimates, considering cost implications.
  • Recognize field conditions affecting work execution and identify potential cost and schedule impacts.
  • Collaborate with Construction Management to capture relevant costs for rental equipment necessary for field installation.
  • Lead estimate review meetings with the Project Team, presenting the final estimate and supporting bid documentation for review by Project Management, Estimating Manager, Construction Management, and Executive Management as required.
  • Communicate effectively within the estimating group, other internal departments, and with clients.
  • Participate in internal kick-off meetings with project management, engineering, and construction teams, ensuring a smooth transition of estimate information upon project award.
  • Take ownership of assigned estimating tasks to support the process from initial bid walkthrough to proposal submission. Complete any necessary client bid forms or cost breakdowns.
  • Adhere to company policies as outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook, as well as the H+M Safety Manual and OSHA Safety regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • 8 years of industrial construction experience in the field and 4 years of estimating experience (EPC preferred).
  • Ability to present final estimates with supporting bid documentation.
  • Capability to organize extensive information into a coherent and meaningful format while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, establishing respect and credibility.
  • Proficient data analysis skills, particularly in MS Excel.
  • Experience coordinating with scheduling tools (Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 experience preferred).
  • TWIC and HASC Basic Plus certifications required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Sit for extended periods.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Utilize hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.

Work Environment: Primarily office-based with required site visits for pre-bid walkdowns.
