Position Overview:
The Adult Surgical Oncology Outpatient Clinic at UNC Health Care is seeking a Clinical Support Technician I (per diem). This role combines the responsibilities of a Nursing Assistant I and a Health Unit Coordinator.

Team Environment:
The Adult Surgical Oncology Clinic boasts a strong team dedicated to providing compassionate care to patients while supporting one another as a cohesive unit. Patient education and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced clinic environment are essential components of this role.
Position Details:
This is a Per Diem position requiring a minimum commitment of 12 hours every two weeks. The hours of operation are from 8 AM to 5 PM, with no weekend or night shifts, and the clinic is closed on major holidays. Candidates should be available to work at least two days a week and must attend a mandatory weeklong hospital orientation offered biweekly.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, including the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies.
2. Review patient care documentation critically, noting any significant changes in patient conditions and reporting them immediately to a registered nurse or physician.
3. Perform various clerical tasks, such as organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting visitors, answering phone calls, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records.
4. Conduct routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory management of supplies. Provide administrative support, including data entry and performance improvement audits.
5. Offer clinical support by maintaining a clean work area, troubleshooting common equipment issues, changing linens, checking supply inventory, and assisting in the orientation of new staff.
6. Deliver direct personal care to patients as outlined in their care plans, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility. Measure and record vital signs, height, and weight.
7. Reinforce routine patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient understanding of instructions.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School diploma or General Education Development (GED)
Licensure/Certification:
- Listed as Nurse Aide I Registry with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience:
- Six months of clerical or customer service experience is required.
Skills:
- Proficiency in verbal and written English is essential. Ability to develop computer skills if not already competent.
