Role Overview:

Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Facility Maintenance Supervisor will lead and guide the maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader capable of providing vision and direction to achieve daily, annual, and long-term asset reliability goals through the application of best maintenance practices across the site. A strong alignment with Covanta's core values is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Safety Leader, ensuring that individual and team safety remains the top priority in all planning and execution of tasks.
  • Collaborate closely with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) personnel to target zero incidents and continuously improve site EHS performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in maintenance strategies, promoting initiatives that enhance safety, productivity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Plan, develop, and implement innovative methods and procedures aimed at improving operations and optimizing labor and material utilization.
  • Oversee Maintenance Shops that include both Mechanical and Electrical & Instrumentation crafts with advanced skills.
  • Develop a comprehensive 5-year maintenance strategy for the site.
  • Maintain a metric dashboard for maintenance that drives improvements and prioritizes actions.
  • Prepare annual and monthly maintenance budgets, ensuring alignment with business objectives and identifying opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Lead the site Work Management Program (WMP) to ensure cost competitiveness through best practices.
  • Support a Computer Maintenance Management System and related tools.
  • Direct outage planning and maintenance processes, coordinating shutdown implementations.
  • Utilize lean methodologies to enhance reliability and identify performance gaps.
  • Set expectations for reliability initiatives, focusing on solutions for recurring failures through root cause analysis and preventive maintenance.
  • Inspect operational machinery and equipment for compliance with standards.
  • Collaborate with management, engineering, and quality control teams to resolve maintenance challenges and recommend operational improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Waste-to-Energy maintenance or a solid background in power, industrial, or chemical plant maintenance, with a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; a Bachelor’s Degree or Engineering degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of maintenance budgeting and methodologies is essential.
  • Experience managing outages is required.
  • Ability to manage spare parts inventory effectively.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including ALM/Peoplesoft, Microsoft Office Suite, and CMMS.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems, including the National Electric Code and NFPA Arc Flash safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with work management processes, including planning, scheduling, and preventive maintenance.
  • Thorough knowledge of Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance practices.
  • Experience in the design, repair, maintenance, reliability, and inspection of chemical process equipment.
  • Familiarity with reliability tools such as Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must qualify to wear a full-face respirator.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
