Overview

As a key member of the judicial system, the Court Reporting Specialist is responsible for producing an accurate and verbatim record of court proceedings. This role involves utilizing advanced shorthand techniques and technology to document oral testimonies during trials, depositions, and other legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend all required court sessions and meticulously record oral testimonies, including any objections and rulings.
  • Utilize shorthand and stenographic equipment to capture proceedings, ensuring clarity and precision in the transcripts.
  • Review and read back portions of transcripts as needed, facilitating understanding among participants.
  • Maintain organized records of notes and transcripts for future reference, ensuring compliance with legal standards.
  • Conduct depositions and manage related documentation as directed by the court.
  • Operate specialized office equipment and provide clerical support as necessary.
  • Gather and file court exhibits, ensuring proper indexing and accessibility.
  • Handle correspondence and distribute it to relevant parties within the judicial system.
Qualifications

Applicants should possess a high school diploma or GED, along with completion of an accredited court reporting program. Certification as a court reporter by the Texas State Supreme Court is required.

Skills and Abilities

Successful candidates will demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications and possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written. The ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues and the public is essential.
